Event description
Artist Audrey Amiss documented her everyday life in a striking visual diary of hundreds of sketches, paintings, scrapbooks and diaries.
When she died, her family donated her archive to Wellcome Collection. In this talk, archivist Elena Carter provides fascinating insight into the process of cataloguing and caring for her collection to understanding the artist’s life.
Audrey Amiss: Kitchen Sink Realism is on display at Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art at Culture House, Sunderland. The exhibition will be open to view before the talk commences at 6pm.
Biography
Elena Carter is a Collections Development Lead at Wellcome Collection. Her work focuses on developing archive and art collections at Wellcome to build more inclusive understandings of health and human experience. Elena spent over a year cataloguing Audrey Amiss’ archive with other archivists at Wellcome, acted as Archive Consultant on Typist Artist Pirate King and undertook archival research for Audrey Amiss: The Surviving Exhibitions at Wellcome Collection.
